The Me-Time Mixtape: Three essential hand-curated links and resources on creative self-care. Carve out some me time this week!
May was a whirlwind of a month, with my daughter's college graduation, new audiobook narration coaching lessons (and homework!), and a variety of work projects. Still, I took a few days of deep rest, and it was just what I needed for a refresh.
Rest and stillness can help us regenerate down to the cellular level, letting our mind and body recover through the power of stillness. After deep rest sessions, you gain clarity and perspective and understand your life's purpose. When you do re-enter your routine, you feel refreshed. I find that I shed some of the worry and anxiety just by letting go.
Today's episode explores the power of deep rest, especially through 7 types of rest. Use the journal prompts at the end of the episode to identify the type of rest you need most.
#1 Sharon Salzberg's Intro to Meditation Course
I love Sharon's courses; they are easy to understand, doable, affordable (suggested $10 fee), and drawn from her wealth of experience and Buddhist practice. In this four-day course (June 21-25), she explores concentration (with breath or sound), mindfulness of the body, common myths of meditation, and healthy expectations for practice. π§πΌ

#2 A Three-Pronged Exercise Plan for Your Heart
Good things come in threes: moderate exercise, vigorous exercise (as your body will tolerate), and strength training. These three types of exercise have many benefits, but are especially helpful for reducing your risk of a heart attack. Try to get a mixture of these three in your exercise routine, but try for progress, not perfection. As the article says, "All forms of physical activity, even in small doses, can make a difference."πͺπΌππ

#3 The Beach Is Calling You! Inspiration for a Beach Walk
I love the ocean: swimming, jumping waves, beach walks, and snorkeling; I can feel that summer is just around the corner (no really, the rain we are experiencing in the Northeast U.S. will let up!). Here's a short film to inspire your next beach walk. π©΄π©΄
